Who We Are

Our Story

The Esther M. Koleosho Foundation was established in January 2005 to support widows in the Saki community, empowering them to become self-sufficient through vocational training and financial assistance. The foundation aims to achieve this mission by designing various programs that address the specific needs of widows in the community.

We provide support during the grieving period and beyond, striving to ease the burden of widows in any way possible.
We seek to make a lasting difference in the lives of widows and their children by easing their burden and being a tangible expression of God’s love. The foundation is a non-profit and non-governmental organization.

Our Mission

The mission of the Esther M. Koleosho Foundation is to support widows in the Saki community, empowering them to become self-sufficient through vocational training and financial assistance. The foundation aims to achieve this mission by designing various programs that address the specific needs of widows in the community.
The plight of widows in this community mirrors that of many others; the loss of a loved one, often the family’s sole provider, leaves an enormous void. However, what makes it particularly challenging in this community is the lack of life insurance or government assistance to support the family during this transition period.
The loss of a spouse often brings about life-altering events—not only emotional pain and loneliness but also significant changes in economic circumstances. During this difficult time, families may need more assistance than relatives can provide; they can also benefit from the support of others.
The foundation will collaborate with women’s organizations in churches throughout Saki, partnering with those already involved in this area or interested in supporting the foundation’s efforts to address the needs of widows in the Saki community.

Esther Mopelola Koleosho Foundation

December 2024- 20th Memorial Anniversary

Mrs. Esther Mopelola Koleosho (Nov 1942 – Dec 2003)

During the 20th memorial anniversary, the majority of the approximately 300 widows in our program gathered for a session filled with supportive activities. We deeply appreciate the unwavering support from our community partners, which has been crucial in achieving our primary objective of catering to the needs of widows registered with the foundation across the Oke-Ogun area.

A recap of our activities over the years includes:

Regular Meetings

Since 2005, we initially held weekly meetings, which were later streamlined to a fortnightly schedule in 2009. Through these forums, widows come together to interact and provide emotional and spiritual support for one another.

Annual Conferences

The foundation sponsors a few widows each year to attend conferences organized specifically for widows in Ago-Are and Ede. This allows them to gain insights into best practices from other regions, enhancing our foundation’s activities and planning.

Health Awareness Programs

We periodically organize health awareness sessions conducted by seasoned health personnel. These programs educate widows on screening for cancer, hypertension, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and general wellness. For those who screen positive, we assist in seeking appropriate treatment.

Guidance and Counseling

We provide periodic health and social talks, as well as vocational and career guidance sessions for the teenage children of widows in primary and secondary schools. We also ran a back-to-school program, distributing school bags, exercise books, pens, and mathematical sets. We hope to revive this program as needed.

Annual Aid Distribution

Every year, the foundation supports widows by distributing food items, clothing, and basic medications. During the pandemic, this initiative was conducted twice a year to help alleviate the various challenges posed by the crisis.

With our hearts full of gratitude we thank the Almighty God for keeping us alive to witness the 10th year anniversary of this foundation set up in remembrance of our mother- Mopelola Esther Aduke Koleosho who slept in the Lord and was buried exactly eleven years ago today. To God be the glory!!!

Brief History of the Foundation

The loss of a spouse is usually followed by a lot of life altering events such as emotional pains, economic hardship and loneliness as a result of the vacuum created by the loss of a loved one. It is our belief that during this period, the family often need more than the assistance that the relatives can provide. It is this line of thought that gave birth to the establishment of the foundation with a view of providing support in any possible way to ease the burden of the widows as may be best expedient for the foundation.

The journey so far

We are grateful to God for leading us thus far.
Public health talks are planned for the widows from time to time. Information on Health-related issues such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, diabetes, HIV/Aids and general wellness have been provided to our widows by seasoned health personnel. In this regard, HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing programme was conducted for the widows and it was quite beneficial to all.
